WAI Girls in Aviation Day Was a Huge Success!
Because of our hard-working, dedicated members, thousands of girls were introduced to aviation as a career and lifestyle. We will continue to plant the seeds to grow the aviation community.
Girls in Aviation Day by the numbers:
Women Take Flight
When: Sunday November 2nd
SWE Hartford partnered with Women in Aviation and assisted in a local Girl Scout outreach event! Approximately 500 Girl Scouts (and their parents) attended this event at the New England Air Museum. Volunteers helped students build Hovercrafts.
See below for a Thank You from Caroline, the organizer of Women Take Flight!
Dear Women of Women Take Flight,
I cannot thank you enough for participating in Women Take Flight 2014. Some of you could not join us last minute but it is the intent and attitude of you women that makes this event so special and keeps it alive. Our tenth event proved to be a wonderful reunion and celebration of women in aviation of all ages. Just over 400 visitors joined us on Sunday. It appeared to be a more diverse group than usual and everyone left having learned something new and been inspired by your accomplishments and willingness to give your time to share your experiences. Thank you for all of your efforts, precious time, and friendships.
I will send pictures when they become available.
With sincere gratitude,
Caroline

30th Annual Certificate of Merit Event
When: Thursday April 24th
Working with 60 Greater Hartford area high schools, we identified and recognized students in their junior year who excel in math and science. Guest speakers discussed the exciting possibilities for math and science students pursuing a career in computer science and engineering before congratulating and awarding students with a certificate. We held a raffle for an iPad and gave gift certificates to all the students who attended the event. SWE members attended and talked with the students and their parents during the evening.
